Georgia Football suffered a recruiting setback on Monday. Donovan Georges has been committed since January of this year. Listed at 6-foot tall, 237lbs he might be undersized for what Kirby wants at the linebacker position. Not that I think this was a mutual decision, but I don’t know if this was a guy Kirby and company would really fight to keep.
Georgia has 7 other offers out to players listed as inside linebackers according to 247sports. Donovan is listed as the smallest linebacker to receive a offer in terms of height. I would expect Georgia to try and pull in-state inside linebacker Michael Harris, and go out of state for K’vaughn Pope to fill the void at inside linebacker. Pope has listed Georgia as part of his top ten finalists for his commitment, he may be a long shot, but he might be the most likely of the guys besides Harris to commit.
This leaves Georgia with two commitments for the 2018 cycle. They are left with the #41 cornerback prospect Chris Smith. Smith has mentioned that he wants to help the class by recruiting other players to join him at UGA. It appears that he might have more work on his plate than initially planned. Georgia is also left with the #3 kicker prospect in Jake Camarda, he is also a very talented punter.
That being said, it shouldn’t be forgotten that is is still only May. None other than Alabama also only have 2 commitments at this moment in time so it’s certainly not the time for fans to start panicking.
