1.1980’s (89-27-4)

It could only be the 1980’s to take the top spot. The only decade where Georgia won consecutive SEC titles. Of course Georgia began the decade with a 12-0 National Championship season and a record of 43-4-1 from 1980-to-1983.

Many of the greatest Bulldogs of all-time played during the 1980’s and the decade was a true renaissance for Georgia’s running game. Starting with Herschel Walker, four different backs rushed for 1,000 yards and Georgia had a 1,000-yard rusher in six different seasons.

The 1980’s was also the first decade where Georgia won over 80 games. But it also marked the end of the Vince Dooley era. The National Championship winning coach retired after the 1988 season. A losing record with Ray Goff as head coach in 1989 kept Georgia from eclipsing 90 wins.

But no decade was better for the Bulldog Nation. The best running back in college football history ran through Athens. The 1980’s also gave us Terry Hoage, Rodney Hampton and Bill Goldberg. The success from 1980-to-1983 is still something Georgia is trying to emulate today.
