10. 1950’s (51-49-5)

From the 1910’s through the 1940’s, Georgia was on a constant incline. After the first two decades saw Georgia lose more than they won, Georgia football became one of the elite programs in southern football with four national titles (three claimed) between 1920 and 1946.

But the fifties are a decade that most fans would rather not relive, besides 1959.

The Bulldogs had five losing seasons in the fifties and only finished over .500 four times. Besides 1959, Georgia never came close to an SEC Championship.

But they did manage to end the decade with one great season to make sure Wally Butts got another championship before his retirement in 1960. 1959 saw Georgia go 10-1 and 7-0 in the SEC. If not for a regular season loss to South Carolina, the Bulldogs may have won the programs fifth National Championship.
