7. 1910’s (43-18-9)

This is the decade that changed the fortune of Georgia football. Prior to the 1910’s, Georgia had a record of 47-52-10. Programs like Vanderbilt, Auburn and Georgia Tech were the best in the south and even Clemson and Sewanee had better programs.

But that all changed when Georgia hired former Vanderbilt star William Cunningham to coach the team in 1910. In his first year, Georgia went 6-2-1. In 1911 and 1912, Georgia only lost one game in each season. And they only had one losing season in the whole decade.

The decade could have been better to if not for Georgia suspending play in 1917 and 1918 during World War I.

Georgia might not have won any championships in the 1910’s, but this is the decade where Georgia became winners. The program only get better after the teens. How would things be different today if Cunningham didn’t begin winning at Georgia?
