4. 1960’s (59-38-8)

Considering how futile Georgia was from 1960-to-1965, one could make a case that the 1960’s are too high. But from 1966-to-1968, Georgia was one of the best teams in college football. Only the decades higher on this countdown can claim better three-year periods.

Georgia started the 1960’s with the end of the Wally Butts era with a 6-4 season. The Johnny Griffith era ended after only three losing seasons. Dooley arrived in Athens in 1964 and turned the program around with a 7-3-1 campaign.

But the Dooley era really got the ball rolling in 1966 with a 10-1 SEC Championship season. The Bulldogs ere just a point away from an undefeated season and two away from a perfect season.

In 1968, the Bulldogs were SEC Champs again and even claimed a share of the National Title with an 8-1-2 season.

The sixties may have started rough for the Bulldogs, but they certainly didn’t end rough.
