With Georgia Baseball coach Scott Stricklin staying for one more year, we take a quick look at just how he did in 2017.

Georgia Baseball was the epitome of UGA sports lately. Another underachieving team at UGA was this baseball team. I’m going to give Coach Stricklin a C- on his report card. I passed him due to him not getting fired after the season. We’re going to dive in to the bad, good, and expectations for next year.

The Bad

Although this team was young, having only 2 seniors, this team was supposed to be really good. But they weren’t near expectations. Georgia ended the season, 25-32 (11-18 SEC) and once again missed the NCAA Tournament. It’s very tough to look at the schedule at some of the losses: College of Charleston, Kennesaw State, Mercer, and Rider. Don’t get me wrong, these are very good baseball programs, but they should not be coming to Foley Field and beat UGA in a series.

The Good

There wasn’t a lot of good, but there were some bright spots. Let’s start off with SWEEPING GEORGIA TECH! What dawg fan doesn’t like seeing Tech lose? I know I do! Coach Stricklin did do a good job of teaching resilience. These Dawgs could’ve quit midway through the season…… But they didn’t. They ended the season taking series’ from 3 top 30 teams (Kentucky, Mississippi State, and South Carolina). Although UGA ended their season in a tough 3-0 loss to Mississippi State in the 1st round of the SEC Tournament, Georgia showed their potential for the upcoming years.

Expectations for Next Year

The Diamond Dawgs have a good chance to be very good. If Coach Stricklin wants to keep his job, he better find a way to the big dance. I see Georgia being a middle of the road SEC team with a chance to squeak into an NCAA regional.
