One of the Dawgs’ biggest rivalries is partially responsible for the original construction of the stadium. “Clean, old fashioned hate” was a thing in the early 1900s. The battle with Tech ,when played at their place, was at their Grant Field. UGA’s home field, which was called Stanford Field at the time, didn’t dwarf the home of the enemy yellow jackets. That didn’t sit well with the powers that be. It led UGA president Dr. Stedman Stanford and the university administration to raise $360,000 to build the first version of the famous stadium.
