If you’re an Athens local or an R.E.M. fan, you probably already know that the band has roots in Athens. Their mega hit album, “Automatic for the People” was actually a slogan for a local restaurant in town,  Weaver D’s. The band liked it so much they asked the owner to use it and after he finally figured out who they were, he of course obliged. All four members of the band attended UGA at one point.
