Georgia Football: Profile of 2018 OL commit Owen Condon
Big, smart man with a world of potential and size.
Condon’s intelligence and size are the raw tools that the coaches are looking for. He has both of them in abundance. The issue is that we don’t know a huge amount about how he will do against top level competition. Condon has played and dominated in this Oklahoma High School league but the state he’s in doesn’t have the same level of competition as places like Georgia and Texas. He’s yet to truly show what he can do against elite players.
He’s also not a big camp guy, which has again hindered his ability to ‘increase his rating’ with the big services. Check out the highlights of his sophomore year below:
He’s a big guy, he clearly looks physically imposing when you compare him to other high schoolers. He also looks pretty damn nasty. He just keeps pushing and shoving people even after the play has gone to another part of the field. I like that in a O-lineman. It’s necessary in the SEC.
However, he also seems to lack technique and balance compared to some of the 2017 class. He ends up falling over far too often (even if he takes a guy down with him) and that’s a sign of a player who needs more coaching. The raw clay is certainly impressive and I can see why Sam Pittman wants Condon to be a dawg. He’ll be thinking he can easily coach him up. I’d also expect him to become more powerful as he grows, He’s got the room to add another 30 of 40 lbs of muscle on him.
