Appalachian State

(2016 record – 10-3 and Sun Belt conference co- champs) – same.

They return some key starters including quarterback phenom Taylor Lamb. They also lose some very key pieces from the 2016 squad that nearly upset Tennessee at Neyland Stadium, most notably career rushing leader Marcus Cox and some key defensive players.

Notre Dame

(2016 record- 4-8) -better.

They had a really rough season in 2016, but the majority of their losses were decided by one score or less. With head Coach Brian Kelly fighting for his job, they’ll win more than 4 games.

Samford

(2016 record – 7-5) – should it honestly matter?

Mississippi State

(2016 record- 6-7)- same.

While quarterback Nick Fitzgerald has the potential to be one of the SEC’S top signal callers in 2017, the SEC west is just too tough at the top with LSU, Auburn and Alabama for the “other Dawgs” to be a lot better than 6-7.

Tennessee

(2016 record  – 9-4) – worse.

Alvin Kamara, Jalen Hurd, Josh Dobbs and Cam Sutton were all great players from the 2016 “life champions” that are gone in 2017. Combine that with them having what I consider to be a questionable head coach, and I see them taking a step back.
