Georgia Football: over/under for the 2017 season
By Mike Stowe
November
South Carolina
(2016 record -6-7) – same.
It’s odd to say a team overachieved that went 6-7, but that’s the case with the Gamecocks. Jake Bentley will be good, but it will be obvious by the end of the season that he’s not the best quarterback in the East. Will Muschamp isn’t going to compete in the SEC anytime soon, if ever.
Auburn
(2016 record -8-5) – better.
Their defense lost Montravius Adams and Carl Lawson to the NFL but is still stacked. A running game which will feature Kamryn Pettway and Kerryon Johnson will be a load. Plus, as everyone has heard by now, they will have former Baylor gunslinger Jarrett Stidham under center running the offense.
While I’m not buying the “Heisman hype” with him, he’ll be a serviceable QB in Malzahn’s offense.
Kentucky
(2016 record -7-6) – same.
The Wildcats share the good fortune with the Dawgs of dodging Alabama and LSU out of the West. Their schedule isn’t that tough, honestly, but they’re Kentucky. 7 wins sounds about right for 2017.
Georgia Tech
(2016 record- 9-4) – worse.
They have an ACC schedule that includes games against North Carolina, Virginia Tech, Miami and defending national champions Clemson. They have to play Tennnessee game 1 and of course the Dawgs in the last game of the season. I’m seeing a real possibility for a 6 loss season out of the bugs this year.
