Pre 1941 uniforms

More from Dawn of the Dawg

Lets go ahead and get this out of the way, Georgia wore different colored jerseys before the 1940’s. Even if the black jerseys from 1941 weren’t actually used, 2007 still wouldn’t be the first year that Georgia wore black.

The team wore black jerseys occasionally throughout the 1910’s and 1920’s, enough game photos exist to prove that. Georgia also wore white jersey’s throughout most of the 1930’s. Those jerseys were all white with two red stripes on the long sleeves and red numbers (good idea for a throwback).

But when Wally Butts became head coach, Georgia’s uniforms remained unchanged until Vince Dooley became head coach in 1964. And that’s why these pictures of Georgia players, in Sanford Stadium wearing black jersey’s are fascinating.
