Georgia Football: Which 5-Star QB do UGA want?
Breaking down Matt Corral.
Corral is probably the least familiar of these QB’s to fans. He’s from all the way in southern California and has been considered a USC lock for more than a year. He’s a very exciting player in his own right though and definitely earned all of those 5 stars. In terms of size, he and fields are much closer to Jake Fromm than Jacob Eason. Corral is 6-2 around 200lbs right now. He’d have to put on some weight when he arrived on campus but that’s pretty normal for a passer.
While he might be down as a Pro Style QB, he has some wheels. He’s not the threat with his legs that Fields is, but Corral can run. He’s rushed for more than 800 yards in his past two high school seasons. Corral looks like another Jake Fromm kind of player but with an even better arm. There’s little doubt that his live arm and accuracy are what separate him from a lot of players. His throwing skills are very advanced for his age.
His arm talent is legitimately rare and while he might not quite have Eason’s rocket, his accuracy also impresses. He reminds me a bit of USC Sophomore Sam Darnold, who he likely would have replaced if he had stayed in LA. Darnold was classed as a dual threat QB but he moves very similarly to Corral. They both have good arms and impressive accuracy. Darnold is expected to be a top 5 pick in the NFL draft if he puts together a strong 2017 season so the potential is absolutely there for Corral.
