2017-18 Georgia basketball non-conference schedule

Last year, Georgia opened the season on the road against Clemson who were the Bulldogs equal if not just a little better. The Clemson game was followed by games against non-power conference teams.

In 2017 however, Georgia comes right out of the game with two weaker opponents starting with the Bryant Bulldogs (12-20, 9-9) of the Northeastern Conference. Georgia then plays the South Carolina-Upstate Spartans (17-16, 7-7 Atlantic Sun). Both of those games are at home.

First challenge

The first big game of the 2017-18 season isn’t against a big name school, however it is against a team that accomplished a lot last year. Georgia hosts Texas A&M-Corpus Christie (24-12, 12-6 Southland).

As we know all too well in college basketball, smaller teams from smaller conference does not equal a cakewalk. The Islanders will come to Athens and put up a fight. With the season that Georgia is coming from, a win over Texas A&M-CC will be a great confidence builder.

Wooden Legacy

The seeing for the Tournament is not yet finalized, but we do know who the other seven team are. The field includes:

  • Cal State Fullerton (17-15, 10-6 Big West)
  • DePaul (9-23, 2-16, Big East)
  • Harvard (18-10, 10-4, Ivy league)
  • Saint Joseph’s (11-20, 4-14 Atlantic 10)
  • Saint Mary’s (29-5, 16-2 West Coast)
  • San Diego State (19-14, 9-9 Mountain West)
  • Washington State (13-18, 6-12 Pac 12)

A pretty decent field. Saint Mary’s is the clear favorite since they are coming off a season where they nearly won 30 games, the West Coast Conference and a trip to the Sweet 16. However, Georgia and Harvard are both good enough to win the tournament.

Game one is on November 23rd, and the finals are on the 26th.
