SEC schedule (cont.)

For single meetings, Georgia opens conference play with Alabama (19-15, 10-8). The Bulldogs embarrassed themselves at home against the Crimson Tide last year but made up for it with a win in Tuscaloosa late in the season.

Then there’s Arkansas 26-10, 12-6) who is quietly one of the better teams in the SEC. Last year it seemed like no one was talking about them as they won 20-plus games and almost upset North Carolina in the Round of 32.

Ole Miss (22-14, 10-8) is another really good SEC with not much attention. Vanderbilt (19-16, 10-8) fits that description as well.

Texas A&M (16-15, 8-10) and Mississippi State (16-16, 6-12) are other teams that Georgia fans should be glad to not play twice in 2018. Controversy ended last years game against Aggies, but truthfully, Georgia should not have allowed that comeback to begin with. This will be one of the biggest revenge games of the season, fortunately it will be played in Athens.

Then there’s Missouri (8-24, 2-16), the worst team in the SEC. And then Kentucky (32-6, 16-2), the best team in the SEC. Not much more to say about either one. Georgia should roll over Missouri, and they’ll be going for a monumental upset at Kentucky.

We can also throw in the trip to Kansas State (21-14, 8-10) in the SEC/Big 12 Challenge. Georgia defeated Texas in the challenge last year in Athens while Kansas State lost to Tennessee.

Overall, the 2017-18 schedule is a lot more bearable than last years. There, are tough teams outside of conference play, but they aren’t more talented. SEC play will be as tough as always if not tougher. But locations are favorable and getting to play a team like LSU twice makes the schedule a little easier.

Georgia should win somewhere between 19 and 21 games. As long as they can get a win each against Florida, South Carolina, and Tennessee, as well as wins against teams like Texas A&M-CC, Winthrop, Arkansas, Mississippi State, Vanderbilt and Kentucky then the Bulldogs should secure a spot in the NCAA Tournament.

If they fail to reach that goal, then it’s like I said on the first slide, Mark Fox shouldn’t coach Georgia basketball anymore.
