No. 62 Trenton Thompson

Clearly Chubb is not the highest ranked Bulldog on this countdown. Just four spots ahead of him is Trenton Thompson, one of the best defensive tackles in the SEC and one of the best defenders on the Georgia Bulldogs team.

More from Dawn of the Dawg

For nearly two years it just seemed that Thompson was a run stopper. A good run stopper, but only a run stopper. But as his sophomore year went on, Thompson began to add more to his game and by the end of 2016, he was a pretty good pass rusher as well.

Thompson is a powerful player, he’s every bit the run stopper he was early in his career. But now, he occupies blockers which keeps linebackers and other defenders free to get to the ball. And the fact that he can rush the passer makes him all the more dangerous.

Thompson gave Georgia fans a bit of a scare a few months ago when he was picked up by ACPD and hospitalized for a while. Although it does appear that Thompson will be ready to go when the 2017 season begins. Which will be needed since Appalachian State is a run heavy team.

Chris Johnson said of Thompson:

"Thompson withdrew from classes at Georgia in February after university police reportedly found him wandering in a road at 1 a.m. and appearing “very unsteady on his feet,” with bloodshot eyes, in what the school described as a “significant medical issue which required emergency hospitalization and extended hospital stay.” Bulldogs head coach Kirby Smart said this spring that he was hopeful Thompson would rejoin the team in time for the start of the season, which is great news. At full strength, the 6′ 4″, 295-pound junior can function as a wrecking ball that cramps the pocket and storms the backfield."

While Thompson may be worthy of a higher spot, the fact that his ability to play can be questioned after his medical incident makes no. 62 a safe spot.

But with Thompson and Chubb both outside of the top-50, what other Bulldogs can make the list? Are any players on the team better than Chubb and Thompson.

Next: Georgia should not extend Mark Fox after 2018

Maybe Isaac Nauta on offense. He has a shot at being one of the best tight ends in Georgia football history. He’s a big guy, but somehow he’s a fantastic athlete with surprising speed and acceleration. You’d be hard pressed to find a better tight end in America.

Dominick Sanders comes to mind as well. Yes he fell of pace with his interceptions last season, but how often did a ball get thrown his way? Quarterbacks now know that throwing a pass in Sanders’s area could be a huge mistake.

Other possible Bulldogs include Lorenzo Carter, Sony Michel and Malcolm Parrish.
