Nolan Smith has had quite the 6 months. In January, the defensive end committed to his home school of Georgia. He was incredibly excited about being able to build a home state class that could take Georgia to greatness. Since then, he has moved to Florida to train at IMG Academy and gone up against the best in the nation. He has also suddenly gone from a top 50 player in the 2019 class to the #1 overall talent according to Scout.com.

That is a whole lot of change for a 16 year old kid. He’s suddenly gone from a guy who could be good, to one of the most known high school players in the nation. He’s also go two of the biggest programs in the country coming after him. Alabama and Clemson are both pushing hard to get Smith to decommit from Georgia. Both of them are heavily pushing the line the UGA is simply not a place that he can win.

Dawgnation.com reporter Jeff Sentell had a really frank conversation with Smith this week at the opening. He continues to refer to Georgia with the term ‘we’, but there is no doubt, he has heard what ‘Bama and Clemson have told him. Smith wants to see UGA win, because that’s what he wants to do in college. He wants to play for titles and go pro.

Some people are freaking out a bit about Smith and several treat him like a player who is already out the door. I disagree. To me, it seems like he still loves Georgia. He just wants to know that if he goes there, he can win the big games. If UGA go to Atlanta this year, look for Smith to reaffirm his commitment and lead the 2019 class to Athens.
