Georgia Football: Checking out Nike’s ‘The Opening’.
Could James Cook really flip?
To me, this is a fascinating story line. James Cook is the nations #3 rated running back. He’s the younger brother of FSU standout Dalvin Cook and has been committed to Florida State for some time. However it seems that Georgia has gotten in his ear recently and he’s listening. While everyone assumed he would follow his brother, the idea of being his own person is important to him. He wants to make the best decision for him and that has brought UGA into the race.
Jeff Sentell (that man again) had a great piece on Cook today on dawgnation.com. It seems that Georgia really does have his attention. This will likely come down to being an FSU, UGA battle in the end. What is interesting is how he feels about playing alongside the nations #1 RB Zamir White. White committed to Georgia last week but this hasn’t put off Cook at all. Rather, he seems to see it as a chance to pair with a complimentary player at Georgia. White and his skillsets would certainly blend well together much like Nick Chubb and Sony Michel. There is no doubt that both players have benefited from playing alongside one another and staying fresh. I firmly believe that it will help them even more when they go to the NFL.
White himself spoke about how he like UGA because he saw the chance to play, but he liked the chance to share the load. Running backs only have a certain number of carries these days and staying fresh and healthy is going to be key for them when they go pro. If Cook does flip and join White, look out SEC. That duo could be the best Georgia has ever seen.
