Former Georgia baseball pitcher Alex Wood is going to represent the Los Angeles Dodgers on the National League All-Star Team.

Alex Wood has been selected to represent the Los Angeles Dodgers, playing for the National League team in the MLB All-Star game.

He was picked as a replaced for teammate Clayton Kershaw, but he’s a good candidate himself. Wood is 10-0 on the season with an ERA of 1.67. This could be a preview of a Cy Young post.

Wood is a first time All-Star who got here in a weird way. He started the year in the bullpen as a reliever. The Dodgers were looking for a sidekick for Kershaw and Wood answered the call.

More from Dawn of the Dawg

He has scratched his way from the bullpen to the no. 2 spot in the rotation, and an All-star game berth. Wood is a part of the best rotation in baseball and is a huge part of it.

Wood was drafted by the Atlanta Braves in the 2nd round in the 2012 MLB draft. Wood was 13-10 at UGA with a 3.57 ERA, and was named 2012 SEC Pitcher of the Year.   He has had a decent career going 37-30 with a 3.12 ERA. He played with the Braves from 2013-2015 before being traded to the Dodgers.

The 2017 MLB All-Star game will be played in Miami on Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. As always the winning league gets to have one of their teams get home field advantage in the World Series. The Dodgers are one of the best teams in the National League so a good outing by Wood might end up helping out his team in October.

But the All-Star game could be just the beginning for Alex Wood. Being 10-0 with an under 2 ERA are definitely Cy Young Award numbers. But there may be one problem. His name is Clayton Kershaw.

Kershaw is the ace of the Dodger rotation and is having a great season himself. So could Alex Wood escape the shadow of Clayton Kershaw? Can he win the Cy Young? This should be a fun see season for the former dawg.
