Kirby Smart has a good drill.

Kirby Smart has always been a man obsesed with football. James Light, an assistant coach for a Michigan high school was one of many coaches who attended a recent Nike coaching clinic. Kirby Smart was one of several top college coaches who spoke at the event and Light shared a video of some of what Smart said.

Warning, some of the language Smart uses if NSFW:

I love this video. The Oklahoma drill is quite possibly my favorite thing in football training. Ever since I saw it for the first time in hard knocks, I thought ‘THIS IS AMAZING’. But Smart is absolutely right that football has changed and so have the generation of players who are playing it. This drill has all of the physicality of the old school version. It’s also much more relevant to the way we play the game today.

It’s a great reminder to a lot of kids just what it’s going to be like to play football in the SEC. college football in the southeast is physical. Correction, it’s really physical. A lot of youngsters come in having been great in high school, thinking it will all be the same in college. This drill gets them to understand immediately, that they are going to get hit. So it’s time to put your big boy trousers on.
