Georgia Football is going heavily after Justin Fields who just hit the #1 spot on 247’s rankings.

247 Sports is one of the top recruiting websites in the country. Like the other big ones, they have their own list of prospects as well as a composite of all the websites put together. They re released their own rankings yesterday and they have a new #1 overall player.
Trevor Lawrence, the Clemson commit who chose the tigers over Georgia has moved down to the #2 overall player. Justin Fields, another local Georgia prospect have become their new #1. Georgia is still heavily in the mix for Fields as he looks to commit this summer. They just missed out securing Lawrence’s commitment in December, but if they were able to get Fields to sign, that would be a huge win.
Several other UGA targets saw some big movement in their rankings as well. QB Matt Sorral who is also considering UGA has dropped from #19 to #61 and Tyreke Johnson who was considered one of the top safeties in the nation dropped out of the top 100. That being said, neither of these prospects have done much to disappoint over the summer and both are highly capable players. Azeez Ojulari has also made a startling jump. He’s gone from being outside the top 250 to the #25 overall player. I’m a bit Ojulari fan and I believe he’s a UGA lean. However I don’t know if I can agree that he’s a top 25 player. He’s yet to show that level of play on the field.
This new ranking goes to show that no recruit in the country has more helium than Fields at the moment. He was dominant in Nike’s ‘The Opening event’ the past week and there is a lot of excitement to see him playing real meaningful football games again. Fields will be in Athens from the 15th until the 16th of July for an overnight visit. Fingers crossed he likes what he sees.
