2002 Georgia over Arkansas in the SEC Championship Game

This one is personal. It wasn’t exactly the most competitive game, but my wife and I were there. We already had tickets and her company was having their annual Christmas party that evening.

So not only did we get to see the Dawgs win their 1st SEC championship since 1982 against an outmatched Arkansas Razorback team, we also had free lodging, food and drink courtesy of her company.

There’s just something about being there and getting to see your team hoist a trophy live. I knew that 2002 team was special. Players like David Pollack on defense and David Greene on offense made this one of the greatest teams of the Mark Richt era at UGA. And they proved it by going out and straight up whipping the Pigs.

Chants of “MOOOOSE” could be heard throughout the Georgia Dome as UGA running back Musa Smith racked up 106 yards on 19 carries with two touchdowns. This one was never in question. The final score was 30-3. But the feeling at the end was unforgettable. Having the opportunity to see the Dawgs lift the SEC championship trophy as the confetti fell was a thrill of a lifetime.
