Writers at Dawn of the Dawg have written about their three favorite Georgia football victories. Today is Kaleb’s turn to share his favorites.

I’ve been a dawg fan my whole life. My first sentence was “Go Dawgs! Sic em! Woof woof woof!” I’ve witnessed a ton of huge Georgia football wins. Alistair took one of my favorites with the 17-9 win over Florida in 2012, but I have 3 good games that I thoroughly enjoyed.

2008 Sugar Bowl no. 5 Georgia 41  no. 10 Hawaii 10

I remember being at school the Monday after the bowl schedule was revealed and all I heard was Colt Brennan this and that.

Then there was game day. It got me pumped. I heard about 12-0 Hawaii all month. Then hit the pre game, which was my favorite part. After a few commentators picked Hawaii over Georgia, Fran Tarkenton had the most dumbfounded look on his face. Let’s just say, Fran knew the deal.

This game was a complete beatdown and I loved every single second. Colt Brennan went from a shoe in 1st rounder to being selected in the 3rd round. Defensive end Marcus Howard won Sugar Bowl MVP for wrecking Colt Brennan. This was the best blow out win ever.

2001 Hobnail Boot Georgia 26  no. 6 Tennessee 24

What a game this was. I was only 8 years old rooting for the Dawgs with all of my little heart. I remember sitting in my living room so upset because UGA was getting dominated 14-3. Then, there was a glimpse of hope.

Damien Gary took a punt 72 yards to the house and all of a sudden, Neyland Stadium was quiet. It ended up tied at 17 at the half and I felt confident. Then came the topsy-turvy 4th quarter. The Dawgs lead 20-17 when Tennessee hit a screen pass that turned into a 62-yard touchdown.

Tennessee took a 24-20 lead with 44 seconds left. I was devastated. I despised Casey Clausen and I still do. The thought of him winning in this fashion brought tears to my eyes.

But then, the legend of David Greene was born. He marched UGA to the Tennessee 6 Yard line with just 10 ticks left. We all know how this ended. And Larry Munson is the only person who can really describe the play with words effectively.

“My God Almighty, did you see what he did? David Greene just straightened up and we snuck the fullback over! We just dumped it over! 26-24! We just stepped on their face with a hobnail boot and broke their nose! We just crushed their face!”

2002 no. 7 Georgia 24  no. 24 Auburn 21

This is by far my favorite UGA win of all time. I was a huge David Greene fan. Georgia had to go to Jordan-Hare and beat Auburn to get to the SEC Championship game. Auburn lead the whole entire game.

Then with just over a minute left, 4th-and-15, David Greene hit Micheal Johnson on a 20-yard touchdown bomb and the first time UGA lead would be enough to win at Auburn. My younger brother and I yelled so loud that the neighbors called to make sure we were okay. It was probably the best moment of my childhood.
