Building on that tradition

As you can see, the tradition of great tight ends going on to be solid in the NFL already exists at Georgia. Since Pope, that tradition has waned. Matrez Milner failed to have a great pro career after racking up 808 yards in four seasons at Georgia.

Tripp Chandler was the first Georgia tight end in a long while to not put up huge stats. Orson Charles had a great career in Athens, but he was oddly moved to full back by the Cincinnati Bengals. Aron White, Jay Rome and Arthur Lynch all had good careers in Athens, but neither have been productive in the NFL.

However, this group of tight ends Georgia has now has the potential to get Georgia back on track when it comes to producing tight ends. All four of them are talented enough to play in the NFL, Georgia just has to keep from wasting them.

But besides producing tight ends, it’s been a joy watching so many greats come through Athens. From Shannon Mitchell to Leonard Pope, from Orson Charles to Isaac Nauta. You can always expect the Bulldogs to have a solid tight end on the roster.

With the rate Georgia football is going, fans, the SEC and the national will be calling UGA “Tight End U.”
