How does 2017 stack up:

The 2016 team was very young and because of that, they are returning a lot of starters this year. Their offense will return 10 starters including quarterback Drew Lock who at times, looked like a potential superstar last year. Because of the changing of the guard that has occurred at Mizzou over the past few years, they did not really lose much talent in the past off-season. Instead, they have a more experienced coaching staff and more experienced players who theoretically should be ready to step up in 2017. Of course whether they are able to do that or not is another question.

Odam returns his coaching staff with the exception of a new defensive line coach. Josh Heupel did a fantastic job with the offense last year. Heupel was released by Oklahoma a few years ago, but he has a great pedigree. He led Oklahoma to the national championship as a QB in 2000 and that experience has to be helpful to Drew Lock. Defensive Coordinator DeMontie Cross spent a lot of time in the NFL. However, his first year at Mizzou was a bit of a disaster and he’ll be on the hot seat. Odam will struggle to keep him in a job if they allow as many points as they did last year.
