Wide receiver was a position of need for the 2017 recruiting class. Now Georgia football has seven new receivers for 2017.

The question after Isaiah McKenzie left Georgia to go to the NFL was who Jacob Eason would have to throw the ball to in 2017. Terry Godwin, Riley Ridley and Javon Wims were the only proven receivers returning so the receiving corps needed rebuilding.

The 2017 signing day brought Georgia four receivers, including three four-star wide-outs. One of those four-stars brought in their brother a couple months ago, bringing Georgia’s total of new receivers to five. Then Mecole Hardman moved to wide receiver from the defensive backfield.

Now Georgia has learned that a seventh new receiver has joined the Georgia football team. Ahkil Crumpton is set to join the Bulldogs from Los Angeles Valley College. However, it is not yet certain if he will play for Georgia in 2017 or if he will sit out a year.

Crumpton has a very similar size and skill set as McKenzie. He’s 5’8 and 160 pounds, and quick. Someone who the coaches might chose to takeover punt or kickoff return duties.

Although Mecole Hardman seems like a lock for kick return duties, Kirby Smart didn’t have McKenzie field kickoffs last year. Meaning Hardman will probably return punts while Crumpton fields kickoffs, or vice-versa.

Georgia also needs to find a way to play as many players as possible at wide receiver. Back in the early 2010’s when Georgia’s receiving corps was at its best, Georgia has seven regular contributors at the position.

The Bulldogs will need more than just Godwin, Ridley and Wims in 2017. Several other players need to step up. Now that Georgia has seven new receivers going into the 2017 season, Smart and the offensive coaches will have plenty of guys to throw onto the field for Eason.
