What do they do not so well:
Muschamp is a great defensive mind, but he’s inherited some problems on that side of the ball. Last year, the entire team only amassed 21 sacks. That’s a very low number but they are actually losing some of their top producers. DE Darius English accounted for 9 of those sacks last year and he’s gone. They have not recruited heavily on the defensive line yet. Not in the way that Florida did under Muschamp.
They are going to need to change that because there is a good chance that by the time SC face UGA, the Georgia running game is humming. Georgia’s offensive line had issues last year but there are some really talented freshman pushing for places. Netori Johnson, Andrew Thomas and Isaiah Wilson are all expected to push hard for playing time. If UGA’s line is better and S can’t get any pressure on Jacob Eason, it won’t matter who they have in the secondary. Eason should also improve this year and he has shown real promise when he has time in the pocket.
Muschamp is going to have to come up with a pretty impressive game-plan defensively. The lack of high caliber personnel should scare Gamecock fans. Georgia is loaded with blue-chip talent offensively in 2017.
