5: Is there a Quarterback Battle?

There is always going to be a lot of talk around the QB position. That’s even when you have a true sophomore like Jacob Eason who started 12 games last year. However there isn’t really a QB battle at camp, more a manufactured one for fans to talk about. The addition of Jake Fromm has ignited this debate. However, to me, this is a good thing. I’m a firm believer that ‘Iron makes Iron’ and that players almost only get better if they are pushed. To me, there is no better way to push a player than bring in another who wants his job.

Eason is an incredible talent but he had his struggles last year. His accuracy was sub-par and he missed far to many open receivers. This needs to change in 2017 if he is going to become the payer that many feel could be a top 5 draft pick in 2018. Jake Fromm is the perfect person to push him and make him better. Fromm is a natural leader, a decent athlete and accuracy is his calling card as a thrower. In short, he is good at the areas Eason needs to work in. That should help push Eason to get better and that’s good for the team.

Jake Fromm is a Georgia boy. He’s a charismatic person and a guy a lot of fans are going to love. But right now, his goal is to push Eason as hard as he can so that Eason gets better. This should not be a real QB battle like we saw last year when Eason was a freshman. But it should be a camp where both of them get a lot better.
