Corner back: Malkom Parrish

Everyone wants to praise corner backs who make a lot of interceptions, great pass break-ups and tackles. But they all forget that there’s another type of corner back, the true shutdown corner. The one that no quarterback throws the ball to.

Parrish is a guy whose name is very rarely called. And as a corner back, that’s great because that means that the receiver he covered hasn’t gotten open. But that also means he goes underappreciated because he’s not making interceptions or big plays.

But what he is doing, that goes unnoticed is probably more important than big plays. Seriously, go back and watch him from the past two years, with the exception of the Ole Miss game where he was matched with a guy much bigger than him, he has shut down almost every receiver he’s faced.

If the coaches pair him with a corner back who’s at least comparable to him, don’t expect many big plays on the outside. You shouldn’t expect many big plays on the inside either…
