Georgia football: Defensive players to watch out for during the preseason
Safeties: Richard LeCounte III and Deangelo Gibbs
Georgia has one of the best and deepest defenses in the SEC, but they are a bit thin in the defensive backfield. Behind Dominick Sanders and Aaron Davis, there isn’t much experience.
But there’s no shortage of talent with the signings of Richard LeCounte III and Deangelo Gibbs. Both were two of the most highly sought after recruits in the nation. LeCounte was the no. 2 safety and no. 22 player overall. Gibbs was the no. 4 safety and no. 52 player overall according to 247 Sports.
Because of how thin the depth chart is behind Davis and Sanders, these two freshman will get a chance to shine early. But if they don’t have a good preseason, we might not see these two in any major roles for a while.
That’s why you should keep an eye on them. Because of their talent and Georgia’s coaching staff on defense, we all should trust that LeCounte and Gibbs will be stars one day. But I’m curious as to how quickly they’ll start to look that way. How they perform in August will give us an indication.
