Georgia Football practice continues in fall camp. And they are finally putting on pads and hitting each other!

There was a lot of excitement over the past few days what with the Georgia Football fall camp officially starting on Monday. However, yesterday was the day most football nuts were waiting for. The very first day with pads. The first day where players can actually start hitting each other. It’s the reason I love hard knocks so much…

Anyway, UGA didn’t disappoint on the video front and they started with a teaser of my all time favorite drill. The Oklahoma:

Couple of things to take from this one.

One, Elijah Holyfield is a grown man. I mean considering his father is one of the great heavyweight boxers it shouldn’t be surprising to see him bully people. But that is a 230lb linebacker Natrez Patrick he’s beating out. That’s not something you see everyday from an RB. Secondly, Freshman Jaden Hunter choose the number his late father played in back at UGA #88. It’s pretty rare to see an LB get a number like that so it’s great to see the team make that happen for him. It’s also great to see a freshman doing such a good job in that drill as well. I’m pretty sure that’s #3 RB Brian Herrian he’s throwing around.

One of the little things to notice on this second video is the catch made right at the end. That is Ahkil Crumpton. Crumpton was a last minute JUCO transfer who was brought in last week when the team realized Devonte Wyatt was unlikely to qualify for his scholarship this year. Keep an eye out for him.

Next: DE Robert Beal joins the team.

He’s earned rave reviews from media observers this past week. He might be small but he’s explosive. There’s a good chance he sees plenty of playing time on special teams but the coaches could find a role for him on offense on certain plays if he continues to impress.
