Georgia football: Top stories from the first week of fall camp
The first week of fall camp concludes Saturday for Georgia football. There are already several headlines and stories coming from the first week.
The 2017 Georgia football squad had an eventful first week of camp filled with hotly contested position battles, some interesting personnel decisions and two new players joining the team. Here are a few of the top stories after one week of preseason practices:
Robert Beal enrolls, Devonte Wyatt goes to JUCO
As July ended, two signees from the 2017 recruiting class had yet to enroll in school because of academic issues. Going into the preseason there were doubts that either would get to suit up for the Bulldogs in 2017.
However, fans got some good news early in the week when Kirby Smart announced in a press-conference that Robert Beal had enrolled at UGA and was ready to begin practicing. Because he missed the first two practices, he spent his first two days on the field without pads.

But he is now in pads and going through full practices with the rest of the team. He was listed as a defensive end coming out of high school so he’s competing for a spot there. But in a 3-4 defense, ends often get moved to outside linebacker when they get to college. Beal will compete for playing time at both positions.
Wyatt goes to Hutchinson CC
While Beal was enrolling at UGA, Devonte Wyatt enrolled at Hutchinson Community College in Kansas. Hutchinson’s head coach Rion Rhodes announced that Wyatt was with the team and practiced Tuesday. Wyatt will remain at Hutchinson until at least January while he tries to get his grades up. Although, he could end up staying there longer.
But don’t worry Georgia fans, Wyatt has no interest in reopening his recruitment when it’s time to leave Hutchinson. Wyatt signed with Georgia and he intends on attending Georgia when he improves his grades.
