Georgia football: Top stories from the second week of fall camp
Other headlines
Other stories that were reported but weren’t as big as others:
Changes to uniforms
If you aren’t a fan of the font that Georgia uses for their numbers, well I apologize because the changes are pretty subtle. The plastic ribbon that was seen on the collars is now gone and is replaced with just a standard black collar.
Local Subway is critical of Greg McGarity
The sign of the Subway on Prince Avenue for a few hours last weekend read: “NEW UGA ATHLETIC DIRECTOR WANTED. APPLY HERE. GO DAWGS.”
The store manager said that the area consultant was the one who wanted the message on the sign. The first two sentences were removed after a member of the athletics office complained to the restaraunt.
Georgia self reports an NCAA violation
The Georgia football staff reported that a coach made an impermissible phone call to a high school coach. The coach made the call to discuss a players academic standing to determine eligibility.
The punishment is that the coach cannot contact the player for 30 days and the rest of the coaching can’t contact him for a week. Which is sort of a weak punishment and it doesn’t make much sense to punish for inquiring about a prospects academic standings. But that’s the law of the land in college athletics.
