Three weeks down, two weeks to go. The 2017 Georgia football season is almost here.

Folks, it’s almost here. The day we’re all waiting for. September 2nd. The first Georgia football game of the year against Appalachian State.

News coming out of Butts Mehre commands much more attention. Injuries become more devastating. Position battled begin to conclude and spots on the depth chart seem cemented. Every single headline builds out anticipation, making us less and less patient for kickoff between the hedges.

If you’re one of the rare few who has eluded these stories, look no further, these are the top stories from the third week of preseason practices. If you’re not anxious for the start of the season after reading these stories, I don’t know what will prepare you.

Malkom Parrish injures his foot

Starting off with the dominant story if this past week is the injury to starting corner back Malkom Parrish.

Parris is a senior who’s been a starter since 2015. He’s one of the least talked about players in the conference, but he deserves much more recognition. He’s a true shutdown-corner who very seldom sees passes thrown his way. He’s the guy Georgia wants to match with the best opposing receivers. His injury is a very big deal.

More from Dawn of the Dawg

Parrish injured his foot early this week and Kirby Smart confirmed that Parrish underwent surgery a few days ago. Smart believes that Parrish will be back in two-to-four weeks. Meaning there is a chance that Parrish can return for Georgia’s season opener.

However, if Parrish misses the Appalachian State, the Bulldogs are well equipped in the defensive backfield to replace him. Aaron Davis has spent time in Parrish’s spot since the injury. Davis is listed as a safety on Georgia’s roster and will spend most of his time there and at the star position. But, Davis began his career in 2014 as a corner back.

Clearly he’s a trusted tackler which will be in high demand against Appalachian State’s run game. But after that, Georgia’s going to need corners who can tightly cover receivers and the defense can’t afford to keep Davis away from the safety and star positions for too long. So it’s very fortunate that Parrish’s injury isn’t too serious.
