Georgia football: Five bold predictions for the 2017 season
2. Georgia will rush for over 3,500 yards
It’s no secret that Chubb and Michel are the best running back duo in college football. In their careers so far, they’ve combined for 6,666 yards of total offense with 55 touchdowns. They both enter 2017 healthy and will continue on their same pace.
If the offensive line opens the holes, they’ll be the first duo in school history to broth rush for 1,000 yards. So they should combine for at least 2,200, what about the other 1,300? Well Georgia has also built a fine stable behind Chubb and Michel.
Herrien rushed for 363 yards last season as a true freshman, his role as a quality backup will increase in 2017. Elijah Holyfield came onto campus with a lot of expectations, he should get his moments to show off this year.
Then there’s true freshman Swift who was the no. 4 running back and no. 33 player in the nation according to 247 Sports. He looks like the next great, every-down back to come through Athens. Much like Chubb and Michel earned their playing time in 2014 despite Todd Gurley’s greatness to that point, Swift should do the same in 2017.
Those three should easily combine for 1,300 rushing yards if, of course, the line opens up holes for them to run through. If so, this will be the best running team Georgia has ever had.
