Penny Prediction.

It’s never easy when a starter goes down before the season starts. It’s also tough when your team either has seniors or freshmen. There are almost no sophomores or Juniors in UGA’s secondary. That means that young players are going to have to step up whether they are ready or not.

One of the things that should make fans feel a bit better is that thanks to some stellar recruiting by Kirby Smart, there will not just be 1 player UGA will have to rely on to replace Parrish. I fully expect Davis to be the player who steps in and plays as a CB until Parrish returns. UGA will then rotate 2 or 4 others to fill the other positions in the scondary.

To me, there will likely be 2 rotations. Tyreke McGee will be involved at ‘star’ and Reed, Lecounte and Gibbs will rotate between that and the second safety. DaAndre Baker, Aaron Davis and Dominick Sanders will likely play almost every snap. The other 4 will rotate in and out for the other 2 spots depending on the circumstance.

Nobody on this team can fully take Parrish’s job. That spot at corner will be waiting for him when he returns. But if I had to pick 1 player who could secure a starting spot while he is out, it would be Reed. He’s the most advanced player and the coaches have warmed to him a lot. That matter a lot in the secondary, especially one that should just need to do it’s job if the front 7 dominates in the way it can. I can see him being the starting safety when Parrish is back with Davis moving back to ‘star’.

Next: Some expectations for 2017 season.
