Georgia Football: How Jacob Eason needs to improve in 2017.
Don’t lose UGA any games.
Last but not least, Eason needs to be better at not making big mistakes. While he was actually pretty good at this as a freshman, some of his mistakes were very costly. The interception he threw against Georgia Tech in the 4th quarter cost UGA a rivalry game. What should have been an easy screen pass was thrown straight to a Tech CB. Kirby Smart’s 1st season would have looked a lot different at 8-4 and a win against the local rival.
In his defense, this was a relatively rare occurrence for someone so young. Freshmen often cost their team games and the Tech game is the only one he was genuinely to blame for. That’s not bad for someone so young. But as a sophomore, that’s something he will need to continue going forward. There will likely be several close games throughout the season and UGA will need him to be consistent if they are going to win them.
Based on his play last season, fans are right to be excited by year 2 of Jacob Eason. If he can become a more accurate passer, find the right receiver and keep the ball away from their opponants, UGA has a great chance for a big 2017 season. Unlike last year, he should have a lot more talent around him to help this season. If he can step up his play, Georgia should be the favourite for the SEC East.
