Sony Michel.

Everyone knows about Nick Chubb. We’ve posted a lot about him recently and almost all of us here at DotD think that he is going to be UGA’s offensive MVP this season. Despite this, I still think that Sony Michel could be more important when it comes to this category. That’s because as amazing as Chubb is, Michel is a more versatile player and can help this offense do a lot of different things. His ability to catch and run routes make him a mismatch in a lot of different sets and his ability to spell Chubb help’s keep him fresh.

There is also the added fact that Michel might actually be the best leader on this team. From everything that comes out of camp, it’s clear the Michel is a guy others gravitate to. Like Chubb, he works hard and leads by example. But he’s more vocal than his tailback partner and that is something that is important to this team.

Jacob Eason was not particularly vocal in his freshman season by all accounts. Hopefully, that will change, but even if he is, Michel will be needed. There are going to be plenty of times where a young offense is going to need to score late to win a game. They will need to believe that these vets will carry them over that finishing line. Michel to me strikes me as the kind of guy who can inspire that kind of belief.
