Georgia Football received some surprising news when OLB/DE Chauncey Manac decided to Transfer today. What does that mean for UGA’s depth?

Chauncey Manac was a big time recruit in 2016. A top 150 player across the recruiting services, he was one of the top players in the state of Georgia. His commitment to UGA was a big deal at the time. He redshirted last year but won an award at the end of the season for best scout team player. Manac was someone that many were expecting to see find a role on this team in 2017. It seemed as though his hard work last year would pay off.

When fall camp started, Manac experienced a position change. He moved from OLB to the defensive line. No reason was given for this move, but it was a surprise. Manac does not have the size of someone like Johnathan Ledbetter who he would be pushing for playing time. This move does not seem to have paid off and today, Manac’s aunt announced that he was going to transfer to another school.

Kirby Smart did not release UGA’s depth chart yesterday, so we don’t know where Manac was currently sitting. His aunt’s statement made it seem like there were no issues with the coaching staff for Manac. This was centered around playing time. So why would a player with this sort of talent decide to leave so early and what will UGA do at the positions he was competing for going forward?
