Defensive line: Stacked with Sophomores.

Manac’s move to the defensive line always seemed a bit odd to me. He didn’t seem to have the same size as the other players that lined up there. That being said, he was also bigger than a lot of UGA’s OLB’s. He was, in short, a bit of a tweener. With some talented freshmen arriving at OLB, it seems a decision was made to try him elsewhere.

UGA’s defensive line group is pretty stacked however this season. Not only are they set for starters, but they actually have a very talented group of sophomores who are a part of the rotation. David Marshall might not have been rated as highly as Manac, but he made an impact last year. He looks like the natural guy who will spell for Johnathan Ledbetter when needed.

At defensive tackle, Georgia is even more loaded. Julian Rochester took Trenton Thompson’s job for a while last year and should continue to get better in 2017. Michail Carter and Tyler Clark also made an impact last year. Both of them are around the 300lb mark and can play multiple positions on the defensive line. It seems unlikely that Manac would play ahead of any of those 3 players this year.

If Manac was going to stay on the DL, he might have been waiting until his Junior season before he saw the field and even then, he might still remain a backup. The move doesn’t seem to have worked quite the way he might have liked.
