Why Chubb can be great.

It’s hard not to believe in the guy. Chubb is a natural leader, despite being a quiet and reserved kind of guy. He’s the kind of person who you want to believe in based off who he is as a person and how hard he works to be the best he can be. Cards on the table time. Nick Chubb might be my favorite player to ever wear the red and black. There have been a lot of greats at UGA over the last decade, but he really could be the best.

When he decided to return for his senior season, a lot of people were shocked. Yes, he had struggled in 2016, but that was clearly because of his knee injury. While he would likely be a 3rd or 4th round draft pick, he had every opportunity to make a lot of money by playing football. He turned that down and returned to school, for one final season.

While part of the reason for that is surely that a better season will improve his draft stock, I can’t help but believe Chubb when he says there is more to it for him. He has never beaten Florida. He has lost twice to Georgia Tech. Georgia has never achieved the heights they could have while he has been there. The 2017 season is an opportunity for him to cement his legacy at UGA. He is unlikely to eclipse Hershal Walkers rushing record, but if he can be the player he was on a team that wins, he will leave Georgia better than when he arrived.

Chubb has always been a player where his success is about more than just how much he lifts and how fast he runs. His desire to be great is the main reason that I believe he can be in 2017. I’m a sucker for a good storyline and Chubb returning to his best is one heck of a story.
