Even on game day, recruiting never sleeps. So what top prospects were at the Georgia Football game this weekend?

THe first game of the season is always about a bit more than football. With only 8 home games a season, every one of them is crucial on the recruiting front. Georgia Football had plenty of players on the sideline for their kickoff game against Appalachian State yesterday. So who was in town checking out the Bulldogs and does that point to good signs for recruiting? We take a quick look at just some of the names who made their way to Athens this weekend to watch the game.

The current commits:

Quite a few of the current UGA commits were in town for the game. CB Chris Smith, TE John Fitzpatrick, OG Warren Ericson, P/K Jake Camarda and WR Kearis Jackson were all in the stadium. That’s just under 50% of UGA’s current 2018 class. It’s a good group of kids who were there working on some of the other prospects who were in town.

2019 star wide receiver Jadon Haselwood was there as well. He was the only 2019 commit in town. In terms of future star potential, Haselwood is the one who stands out the most. He has been the subject of a lot of attention from other programs recently, but he remains strongly committed to UGA and that’s a great sign. He’s the kind of player others want to play with.

The fact that they were there and others were not shouldn’t mean too much. Considering high schoolers are playing their own games on Friday nights, not everyone can make it to Athens. Most of those who did are from closer towns than a lot of the players who missed out. I’d also stress that last year, Kirby liked to spread out his recruiting and have constant attention on players when they were in town. Expect to see more commits in Athens every weekend this season.
