Defense ready to rock.

Now while the offense had a few struggles, Georgia’s defense showed everyone why they are considered to be the strength of this team. While App. State is a Sun Belt team, they are pretty good at putting up points. They were totally and utterly shut down by a Georgia defense that looked like it was in control from the first drive.

While there was the occasional offensive penalty that set App State back, the main theme was UGA’s defense winning battle after battle. The D-line was impressive, with Trenton Thompson and Jonathan Ledbetter both destroying the offensive line.

The linebacking unit showed why they are considered the best in the SEC. Roquan Smith and Natrez Patrick looked really good in the middle. Smith, in particular, shut down numerous runs one on one. On the outside, D’Andre Walker came in and made an impact as the 3rd OLB. Davin Bellamy also had a really solid game.

On the back end, Georgia looked better than I was expecting with Malkom Parrish out. JR Reed looks like a real player at safety and the star position. Richard Lecounte was impressive and accounted for 5 tackles. He looks like the kind of player who is going to make plays this season.

A lot of credit has to be given to this entire unit. They had a clear game plan to shut down a dangerous offense and they achieved it. If they can keep this up, Georgia should have a shot in every game.
