After each game, various players and position groups from the Georgia football team will receive a weekly report card from Dawn of the Dawg. How did the Dawgs do in Week 1?

Offensive Line: B

The offensive line had its ups and downs on Saturday vs. Appalachian State. While the team was able to rush for 221 yards against the Mountaineers, there were way too many negative or no gain plays where the offensive line had zero push. The pass protection overall was fairly good, however. Appalachian State’s defensive front may be the smallest Georgia faces all season. Those plays where the offensive line couldn’t push the Mountaineers around has given some fans to worry if Georgia fans may be in for another long year of subpar offensive line play. The unit will certainly get a good test this weekend when the Dawgs travel to play Notre Dame on Saturday night.

Jake Fromm: B+

Fromm seized his moment when Jacob Eason went down with a knee injury in the 1st quarter on Saturday. While he didn’t light up the stat sheet, he posted an efficient 10-15 passing for 143 yards and a touchdown. He seemed to have a good command of the playbook and looked most comfortable running the up-tempo offense. He did make a few throws that arguably could have been picked off by an SEC defense, but his final stat line showed no meaningful mistakes.

With Eason out this Saturday against Notre Dame, Fromm may have to play one of the best games of his life to lead the Dawgs to a win. Luckily, Fromm has one of the best backfields in America and Georgia’s best defense since 2012 to give him plenty of support. The Jake Fromm era has begun earlier at Georgia than some would have liked, but I personally am very excited to see how he performs in a hostile environment against Notre Dame on Saturday night.
