Nick Chubb & Sony Michel: A
Georgia’s two biggest stars both looked good on Saturday. Chubb appears to be 100% healthy and showed a good burst on several of his runs. Michel showed great speed and versatility. If he can be a legitimate threat all season out of the Wild Dawg formation like he was on Saturday, defenses are going to have their hands full against the Dawgs. These two players may be relied on even more in the next few weeks now that Jake Fromm is the starting quarterback for the foreseeable future. If both of these stars can stay healthy this year, it could be a special season in Athens.
Receivers:?
I didn’t see enough from the receiving corps to give them a grade for week 1. Georgia threw the ball less than 20 times in the game so the receivers didn’t have many opportunities to make significant plays. Javon Wims looked really good and it looks like he will be a legitimate deep threat for the Dawgs this season. I did notice that some of the receivers were having trouble getting separation from the defensive backs and thus were struggling to get open.
That will need to change in order to give Jake Fromm some relief as he makes his first collegiate start as a true freshman on Saturday. One positive note about this group is that it sees the return of Riley Ridley for this Saturday’s game after serving a 1 game suspension on Saturday for an offseason arrest. This position group will be critical to Georgia’s success on Saturday as well as going forward into the rest of the season.
