Georgia Football: Play of the game Week 1
By Mike Stowe
The Outcome.
He finished the day 10/15 for 143 yards and a touchdown with a qb rating of 89.5. Now I know those numbers don’t pop, especially against a Sun Belt opponent at home. But what Fromm showed me Saturday can’t be shown by looking at a stat line. He came straight out hot hitting 8 of his first 11 passes. The freshman out of Houston County, Georgia didn’t seem overwhelmed in what was a pretty overwhelming situation.
The news coming out of Athens on Monday at Coach Kirby Smart’s press conference was that Eason is out for this week and Fromm will get the start this Saturday when the Dawgs travel to South Bend to take on the Notre Dame Fighting Irish. He also revealed that Eason’s injury isn’t season ending and will not require surgery, which was great news. After Saturday, they’re saying his status is “week to week”. UGA needs their star sophomore QB back as soon as possible.
That one seemingly simple rollout play Saturday night has completely changed the immediate future of the program. It’s provided many questions that we will soon get the answers to. Is Fromm as good as advertised? There were times he looked like it on Saturday night.
Is Fromm as good as advertised? There were times he looked like it on Saturday night. And if he can go into Notre Dame this Saturday night in his second collegiate game and come out with a win, that will answer even more. It’s Fromm’s gig for the immediate future and the kid seems up to the task. Georgia and Notre Dame kickoff is set for 7:30 on Saturday night.
