Georgia football: Observations of opponents after week one
Tennessee does not look good
The Volunteers are one of the last teams we saw from the first week of college football and boy did their defense look bad. Last year, Tennessee had one of the worst run defenses in the NCAA. 107th in the country to be exact (13th in the SEC).
So it should come as no surprise that Georgia Tech ran for 500 yards against them. But Tennessee didn’t just struggle because of Tech’s triple option. The Volunteer defense couldn’t make tackles in the open field. Their players didn’t follow the plays real well. They even struggled to cover receivers.

If Georgia Tech could have handled the ball better, the game wouldn’t have been close. The Yellow Jackets would have won in a landslide.
On the other side of the ball, the Volunteers struggled against even three-man rushes from a Georgia tech team that wasn’t all that good at rushing the passer last year. They have a pretty good quarterback and a really good tailback in John Kelly. But what good are they without help? The line looked bad, their best receiver is out for 12 weeks.
As it pertains to their game with Georgia in a few weeks, the Bulldogs should leave Knoxville with an easy win. if the game is close, put that on Butch Jones for creating a great game plan or blame Kirby for not having the team prepared. because Tennessee does not have the talent or fundamentals to hang with Georgia.
Nick Chubb and Sony Michel will not fumble like Tech did Monday night. If Tech can reach the quarterback with three guys, Lorenzo Carter and Davin Bellamy should have the best game of their careers.
