South Carolina is either tough or terrible

If South Carolina’s game against North Carolina State is any indication, they’ll either be a doormat or an impossible team to put down. The Gamecocks were out-gained 514-244.

South Carolina’s Rico Dowdle only gained 27 yards while they allowed the Wolfpack’s Nyheim Hines to rush for 81 on just 15 carries. Jake Bentley had a good day with 215 yards and three touchdowns, but N.C. State’s Ryan Finley passed for 415 yards with two scores.

Yet, South Carolina won 35-28. Mostly because of a 97-yard kickoff return touchdown by Deebo Samuel. The two forced fumbles helped as well.

Performances like this will not win South Carolina many games in the SEC. But they did show a resiliency that may become the constant for them this season. They open SEC play this week against Missouri so we’ll get to judge both teams better after week two.
