Georgia Football: Dawgs in the NFL Week 1
Chris Conley, WR Kansas City Chiefs
Mitchell will end up playing opposite his former running mate this week. Both players were a part of the same 2011 recruiting class and played alongside one another for 4 years. They were also both mid-round picks who have found a home in the teams that drafted them. Pretty surprising considering the old belief that UGA didn’t produce wide receivers!
The Chiefs could end up relying on Conley more than the Pats need Mitchel just because they do not have quite as many weapons. The two players the Chiefs rely on most are going to be the tight end Travis Kelce and the do everything Tyreke Hill. Hill will likely see a lot of different looks all over the field but he is by no means a #1 receiver.
After they cut Jeremy Maclin a few weeks ago, it looks like Conley will be asked to fill that role. That doesn’t mean that the Chiefs will be expecting him to put up a 1000 yards season. However, they are going to want him to step up in his third year. He accounted for over 500 yards last season but no touchdowns and that will need to change in 2017.
For this offense to be balanced, he’s going to need to go over 700 yards with 5 or more touchdowns. This first week will be a great test for him as the Pats so often take away teams #1 weapons and ask others to step up. Dawgs fans will be hoping Conley does just that.
The Chiefs play the Patriots tonight at 8.30pm
