Wow, what a game. Unsurprisingly, after a match like that, we’re going to be talking about the Notre Dame victory for a while. This was one of those games where you really feel glad to be a Georgia Bulldog fan. You might have a few more gray hairs than when you started, but boy was it worth it in the end!

With a big victory under their belt, the team moves onto to face Samford this week. Here are our top 5 takeaways from the game and how they might affect the rest of the season.

This defensive is something special.

I was initially going to point out the defensive line, but having rewatched the game today, I think credit should be spread around some more. This defense played lights out. Notre Dame are not a bad offense. They put up 49 points last week for a reason and they are going to do that again this season. This is a really good offensive team. They have future 1st rounders at receiver and on the line. They also have one of the most exciting QB’s in college football.

None of that mattered this past week. Georgia’s defense was just too good. There were a lot of three and outs in this game, on both sides, but it felt different when it was Georgia playing D. It never felt like Wimbush made a mistake or missed a read. It felt like he had no choice and that the defense was shutting him down.

Players on every level stood out. The line was nasty. They absolutely destroyed the Irish’s running game and pressured Wimbush relentlessly. The linebackers were monsters. Roquan Smith was actually everywhere and Davin Bellamy and Lorenzo Carter had their two best ever games as Bulldogs.

The secondary also deserves a lot of credit. The so called weakness of this defense played a much better game than I thought they could. They shut down Equanimeous St Brown who might just be the most talented receiver they face all year. JR Reed looks like a potential impact player back there. While there will always be things to work on, one thing is for sure. This defense is not like any other we’ve seen at UGA recently. This one is special.
